Gorgeous M-1837 sabre of Austro-Hungarian Grenadier and Jaeger officers commemorating the revolution of 1848. Single edged, curved blade with fuller on both sides and back point. Beautifully etched both sides with scrolling foliage and inscriptions: "13.14.15 Marz 1848" on the outer side and "Fur Recht u. Freiheit" (For Right and Freedom) on the inner side. Iron hilt. Strip vault basket merges into flat crossguard ending with volute. Wooden grip covered with leather and twisted wire. Iron scabbard with two scabbard loops. Yellow portepee with "FJI" initials and Imperial Eagle on the other side.
Condition is excellent. the most worn part of the sword is the grip with worn leather and some pieces of leather missing. The rest of the sword is excellent. Blade is almost mint with gorgeous engraving. Great hilt, guard and pommel with some uniform patina. Scabbard is also near excellent with some darker spots and small door ding near the end.
Great sword overall, probably the best condition Austrian blade in my collection.
