Indo-Persian Talwar with Shamshir wootz blade from early 18th Century. Nicely curved 32 1/5 inch watered (Damascus) blade with engraved inscription in Arabic characters above the hilt. Gold overlaid hilt with an overall design of repeating bands of quarterfoil medalions and zig-zag lines. Brown leather covered scabbard. Condition: very good plus. Blade showing fine watered pattern, few patches of light spotting and several small nicks to edge. Hilt with minor loses to gilt finish. Scabbard is solid and the sword fits nicely but the leather is scuffed. Overall a beautiful Talwar with interesting blade.
Procenance: Sword is from a former collection of Leo S. Figiel.
