Gorgeous Austro-Hungarian sword with super English East India Company made blade. Probably some Austrian nobility or high ranking dignitary was visiting British India and received this blade as gift. The polished steel hilt is a standard pattern 1861 for infantry officer's sword. Shark skin covered grip with triple brass wire. Pommel screw has owner initials "JA" under baronet crown. Attached to hilt is a nice yellow portepee with Emperor Franz Josef I (FJI) initials on one side and Imperial Eagle on the other. The blade is a beauty. Profusely engraved with panoply of arms and flora, but instead of blue, background is gold and the rest nickel plated. The pattern of engraving differs on each side. Both sides on ricasso have a maker name: "Sergeant & Son Manufacturer to the Honorable East India Company". Steel nickel plated scabbard with two rings, standard shape for 1861 pattern.
Condition: Excellent. Clean, shiny blade with no loss of nickel or gold. Few darker spots on the lower section of the blade. Hilt is still shiny but pommel turning to nice uniform patina. Grip is excellent with solid and tight wire. Scabbard with no bends or dents turning grey and has few darker spots.
