Super scarce Kropatschek M.1881 Gendarmerie Carbine. Model 1881 was accepted after army trials the as "Repetier-Karabiner fur Königlich Ungarnische Landesvertheidigung" (Hungarian Gendarmerie) on June 19, 1881, and 4000 carbines were ordered from the Steyr factory. The carbine is somewhat similar to the earlier Früwirth, but the striker has an integral cocking piece instead of an external hammer. Single barrel band and the bolt handle is turned downward. Later the Model 1881 was also issued to the Gendarmerie of Bosnia-Herzegovina. From March 17, 1882, the carbine was issued to the Austrian Landesgendarmerie. The Kropatschek Carbine is marked with Hungarian Crest on the top of the barrel. Barrel, receiver, buttplate, trigger guard, nose cap and stock are marked with serial number "3333". Screws also marked with number"33". The barrel band is marked "K 976".Top of the buttplate has regimental markings: "IV CS over 1208". There is a buttplate trap in great working condition, but no tools inside. Condition: Near Excellent. All metal in white covered with nice, uniform patina. Excellent bore with strong, shiny rifling. Single shot lever work perfectly. All internal parts in perfect working condition. Solid stock in original condition with some dings and scratches but no cracks or chips.
