DESCRIPTION: Large frame Spanish Lefaucheux type pinfire revolver. Caliber: 12 mm pinfire. The upper part of the barrel displays a silver inlaid name of a maker, or perhaps a retailer, "Sereando Ortega, Vitoria". The revolver loosely follows the French M.1854 pattern. Open top design. Single action. Six rounds cylinder. Plain hardwood grips. Complete with a lanyard ring. Some revolvers of this type were captured during the Spanish American War in Cuba and Philippines. Muller shows a very similar revolver made for the Spanish navy by the Trubia state factory as, "Modelo 1859". CONDITION: Overall in very good+ to low fine antique condition. 90% of original finish is still on metal. Scattered surface rust. Some blue finish on metal is turning to a brown patina. The action is still strong. The cylinder indexation is fine. Brown hard wood grips are in fine condition, with just a couple of handling marks. Bore is in fine condition with strong rifling. The cylinder's chambers are also in fine condition. The loading gate works fine. All the markings and numbers are clearly visible on metal. All the internal parts of the revolver are in very good condition with no visible wear. The ejection rod is a crude, non-functional replacement. The revolver is in "as found condition" and needs a good cleaning. Antique. (Ref. "Geschichte und Technik der europaischen Militarrevolver" by Rolf H.
