DESCRIPTION: Scarce French Remington Rolling Block type pistol intended for the civilian market. Caliber: 11 mm French Ordnance Revolver M.1873 (Army). The pistol shows neither a maker address, nor proof markings.  Based on the caliber and on the excellent quality of the machining and metal finish, I suspect that the pistol was manufactured in France (although Switzerland also comes to my mind...). The style of the barrel and the grip is definitely European. The rolling block mechanism is of excellent quality. I suspect that the pistol was designed to fire a low pressure 11 mm black powder cartridge and it should not be used with any other cartridge. Handsome hardwood grips with diamond checkering. Half round, half octagonal barrel. The barrel has a blue finish, while all the remaining parts of the pistol display nice case coloring. CONDITION: Fine, with 80% of original finish on metal. The case coloring is somewhat worn. The blue finish on the barrel is nicely preserved. The bore is in good to very good condition. The rifling is somewhat worn and the walls are displaying some cleaning (?) marks/scratches. There is no rust in the bore. The action works fine. Wooden grips are in excellent condition with some minor handling marks. Complete with lanyard ring. Antique. Very attractive Remington Rolling Block type pistol!
