Unusual, large size Afghan sword bayonet. Similar in size to English P.1887 Martini-Henry bayonet. To locking mechanism is also similar to the one used in Martini-Henry bayonet. This may indicate that the bayonet was manufactured for a locally produced Martini-Henry rifle, or a carbine. The blade displays a Star over the Half-Crescent, some Arabic markings and Islamic calendar date, "1306" (1928 A.D.). The other side of the blade displays Arabic signature, similar in style to Turkish sultan's tugrah (please, see pictures). Hardwood grips. Complete with a steel mounted leather scabbard with a large leather frog. The bayonet length is 26.25 inch. The blade length is 18.25 inch. CONDITION: Overall in low fine condition. Blade is in fine condition, with some dark stains. All the markings are clear. The locking mechanism works fine. Some scattered patina on steel parts of the hilt. The wooden grips show some minor wear. The scabbard is in low fine condition. The lower belt loop needs to be restitched. Nicely marked bayonet in very collectible condition.
