Scarce Uruguayan M.1900 Mauser bayonet. The bayonet was used with Belgian made Mauser M.1895 rifles (contract for 14.000 rifles and carbines). Cruciform blade. Brass hilt with some issue markings and numbers. Large crossguard with a quillon. No maker's marks. Complete with a steel scabbard. The muzzle ring diameter is 15 mm. The bayonet will fit many Latin American Mauser rifles of 1891, 1892, 1893, 1894, 1895 and 1896 pattern. These bayonets were imported from Uruguay in 1985 along with other Uruguayan arms. These bayonets were refurbished and modified in Uruguay. The parts were used from French M.1886 bayonet supplied to Uruguay along with Daudeteau Mauser M.1871 rifles and carbines (also called "Dovitiis-Mauser", or "Mauser 1871/92"). The Uruguayan M1900 bayonet utilizes a M.1886 blade. It was re-hilted for use with the Mauser M1895 rifle. The scabbard is identical to the French M1886, but is unmarked. CONDITION: Fine. Blade is in excellent condition with some scattered light patina. Scabbard is free of dents. Brass hilt is in fine condition with some handling marks. (Janzen p.240/3).
