This bayonet was issued with Terssen Model 1868 rifle (carbine). This rare bayonet is similar to the French Chassepot bayonet, however, it does have a different blade fuller as well as different markings. Brass hilt. Complete with correct steel scabbard. 22.5 inch yatagan style blade. Belgian markings are present on both, blade and hilt. The blade shows a date, "1869". The crossguard shows the following markings, "R 2998". The scabbard shows the following markings, "AB 90099". CONDITION: Overall condition is very good+. Blade shows some dark spots, occasional pitting and some wear. Scabbard shows some patina and surface rust, but no dents. Brass grip is in fine condition. Careful cleaning will greatly improve condition of this bayonet. (Janzen p.16/2)
